Authentic records are recognized from the freshwater tidal Hudson River from Dutchess County north to the confluence with the Mohawk River at Waterford, and from the lower Delaware and Neversink Rivers. The species was recently rediscovered in 2000 in large numbers in the upper Delaware River system between Hancock and Port Jervis, including in the Neversink River tributary (Lellis 2001).

Anodonta implicata occurs on the Atlantic slope from North Carolina to Nova Scotia (Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Brunswick, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Nova Scotia, Pennsylvania, Quebec, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington DC).
